Default Graphics problems!

I could really use some help. I just built a new computer and I've been having serious graphics problems with most games (CS:S, HL2, GW, DoD:S). The problem is that when I boot up the games my graphics flicker and I have like a triple image of the image and lines going across. I found a way to fix it for HL2, by having it launch from Steam with the command -gl -w 800 which forces my resolution to 800x600. I can't figure out how to fix it for guild wars so that I can play. I've tried installing the latest drivers, and then uninstalling those and using the drivers that my card came with.

My specs are:
GeForce 6800XT
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ @ 2.0GHz
512 MB RAM
400w psu.
On-board sound.

Help, please?

Nope, I'm using an old CRT monitor heh.

I tried to take a printscreen, but when I put it in paint it looks normal. WTF?

Hum. Windows works alright at higher resolutions?

How does Guild Wars work in windowed mode?

I'd guesstimate some kind of flaw on the vidcard, since the printscreens come out alright..

I love you Kaguya! I changed my resolution a bit and it works perfectly. That headache over something so simple...Why are all the problems that stump you so damn easy to fix?

It's not the video card. You're trying to run at a resolution and/or refresh rate that isn't supported by your monitor. Get a newer monitor or set your games to run at a resolution and refresh rate that your monitor supports. Your printscreens are coming out fine because they're created from the frame buffer and have nothing to do with your monitor.
